Penang, the northern island state of Malaysia is one of the most tourist visited state in the country. Perhaps this is because of its naturally rich resources as well as its city like atmosphere that greets you as you enter the city. There are many attractions for you to choose from when visiting Penang and as such, it is has since developed into one of the most tourist-friendly cities in Malaysia.

In the city of George Town where most tourists would always come to initially you will be greeted with an array of choices in terms of accommodation. Chulia Street in Penang is widely known to be the backpackers’ street. This is a great place to start if you are looking for any budget accommodation or bed and breakfasts. There are almost one inn available every 2 shops so you are really spoilt for choice there. Quality and rates wise, they are almost similar due to competition and demand, so you can really choose any one.

In around town, you will be able to find the more expensive hotels like the Sheraton Penang, City Bayview hotel and the Eastern and Oriental Hotel known to be one of the oldest hotels in Malaysia, if not oldest. E&O as it is known has a majestic and elegant architectural building that is sure to attract you as you pass by. Cititel Penang is also located around here. These hotels are all located in the heart of the city, in within the cafes and bars that light up the night. If you want to see Penang and then enjoy the night life, these hotels are great choices.

Otherwise you can head out to Gurney Drive where you will be able to stay in the hotels there and then within walking distance bring you to one of the most famous food courts in Penang and renowned nationwide. Here there is the Evergreen Laurel Hotel, Gurney Hotel and the newly opened boutique hotel, G Hotel. If you prefer the more quiet and sea side resort type of hotels, you will have to drive out to the Bukit Feringghi where a row of sea side hotels are available. The choices here would be the Rasa Sayang, Feringghi Beach hotel and Holiday Inn. Over at this side of Penang, you can also find a lot of homestays where you can get a night of accommodation for as low as RM30.
